Move often, move well

Everyone can benefit from exercise, regardless of health, age, background or activity levels. It can be hard to know where to start, or how to get back into routine after taking a break or injury - which is where our accredited exercise physiologists can help.

Exercise Physiologists are university qualified allied health professionals with the knowledge and skills to design, deliver and evaluate safe and effective exercise interventions for people with acute, sub-acute or chronic medical conditions, injuries or disabilities. Our MVP exercise physiologists work collaboratively with physiotherapists and other allied health to provide the best level of care.

No matter where you are in your fitness journey, we can help you identify your goals, find motivation and build exercise habits for life.

How can an Exercise Physiologist help me?

Our accredited exercise physiologists are equipped to help you achieve your exercise goals, regardless of where you are at now. They recognise that there is no one-size-fits-all approach and can tailor a program that fits your unique needs and goals.

Exercise physiology can help you take the guesswork out of which exercises are best suited for you, and at what intensity of training you should begin. Our team can assess your current physical capacity to determine the appropriate training intensity and frequency that is right for you as well as monitor your progress so that you can continue towards your exercise goals.

Our exercise physiologists will…

  1. Conduct a thorough initial assessment to identify areas of concern, goals and make a plan of how you will best achieve your goals

  2. Develop an individualised exercise program

  3. Ensure you perform correct technique to reduce your risk of injury

  4. Improve your body’s physical performance and overall wellbeing

Finding motivation and making positive lifestyle changes

My Vitality exercise physiologists have proven experience inspiring everyday people to find their personal motivation to achieve their goals. They will work with you to help educate, motivate, and empower you to understand the importance of physical activity and to find an exercise type that you enjoy.

Personal Trainer or Exercise Physiologist

Seeing a personal trainer or fitness instructor is a great way to incorporate regular exercise into your lifestyle, however they are only trained to deliver exercise programs to healthy populations. This means if you have an injury, a chronic health condition, disability or are seeking high performance training you will benefit from the services of an exercise physiologist. Your exercise physiologist will design your exercise program with your health considerations in mind in order to help you achieve your goals.

Our team of exercise physiologists are experienced in working with clients with varying health conditions including but not limited to:

  • Cardiovascular diseases

  • Cancer

  • Metabolic diseases such as overweight and obesity, metabolic syndrome and Type 2 Diabetes

  • Musculoskeletal conditions such as osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis and osteoporosis and musculoskeletal injury

  • Neurological conditions such as Parkinson’s Disease, Cerebral Palsy and Multiple Sclerosis

  • Respiratory and pulmonary conditions such as asthma, COPD and cystic fibrosis

What will my training plan look like?

At MVP, we ensure that each person’s training program is specific and individualised to your personal goals and exercise preferences. There are alternatives to just lifting weights however research confirms some type of resistance training is essential for overall health. Our team are experienced at developing a program that is just right for you.

We base all of our recommendations off the latest evidence as well as the current Australian physical activity guidelines.

Are you meeting the standard?

150 to 300 minutes (2 ½ to 5 hours) of moderate intensity physical activity

OR

75 to 150 minutes (1 ¼ to 2 ½ hours) of vigorous intensity physical activity

COMBINED WITH

Muscle strengthening activities on at least 2 days each week

Doing any physical activity is better than doing none. If you currently do no physical activity, start by doing some, and gradually build up to the recommended amount. Be active on most, preferably all, days of the week.

How often do I need to see my Exercise Physiologist?

We strongly recommend you come into the clinic to go through your exercise program 2 to 3 times a week. This provides the highest level of support and supervision which is designed to keep you on track towards your goals and injury free. This can be done in either individual sessions or by joining our small groups.
